June, 2007 US release (www.eHarlequin.com)
The surgeon,
the nurse, and a child in need...
Caring for
Molly, a child orphaned and injured in an accident, offers Thea
Quinn a new lease on life. She realizes how important it is for
Molly to be reunited with her uncle who, blaming himself for the
accident, has withdrawn from everyone.
Molly's uncle
turns out to be Thea's ex-colleague, Logan Kincaid - a dedicated
surgeon, someone she has had secret feelings for. Thea's determined
to show him how much he's needed, both by Molly and the locals.
With Thea's support, Logan starts living again - but will his recovering
heart ever have a place for Thea?
Excerpt:
"You
didn't sleep long, " he said.
He was so close to her she could feel his breath on her cheek. "Logan?"
she whispered. She was in his arms. Propped in some awkward fashion
against the wall, leaning heavily into his arms, her head pressed
to his chest. She liked the feel of his stretchy undershirt against
her cheek, and the masculine, slightly musky smell of him in her
nostrils. "What's going on? What are we doing here?"
"You were sleeping, and I was trying to."
"On the floor?"
"Actually, I'm the one who's on the floor. You're the one who crawled
on top of me."
"How long have we been here?"
"Just an hour."
"You've been holding me like this for an hour?"
Logan snorted. "More like you've been pinning me down for an hour."
That was true. She was mostly on top. "You undressed me, didn't
you? I think I remember..."
He clear his throat brusquely. "You were wet, I had dry clothes,
and you were asleep. At least, I thought you were."
His voice was so clipped, so strained. It would have been nice lying
here in the arms of the Logan Kincaid she knew, and admittedly,
that little fancy had played out in her dreams more than once over
the year she'd known him. He was strictly hands-off, though. Hide
your heart because if you didn't... Well, suffice it to say, the
last thing she needed in her life was a womanizer, and in that respect,
Logan had the reputation of reputations. Admittedly, the first time
she'd heard the stories she was shocked. He didn't seem the type.
But then, she wasn't the best judge of those things, was she? Still,
Logan? Hard to believe, instincts telling her something else altogether.
Even so, save him for the fantasies...
